Mekhila & The Silver Temple

"The stars whisper, but the moon watches. We follow where their light dares to lead."
Alignment: Lawful Good
Realm of Influence: The Feywild
Current Status: Co-ruler of the Feywild alongside Arevay and Regean; Guardian of Starfire Fate; Architect of the Silver Temple

Summary

Mekhila is a lawful good goddess of fate, winter, magic, and the moon who currently resides in the Feywild. Alongside her twin sister Arevay and fellow goddess Regean, Mekhila leads a trio of powerful divine witches who act as defenders of cosmic order within this ethereal realm. Their coven, however, spreads beyond the Feywilding, including Arevay, Auriel, and Ceslida. Once an active and widespread power across the material plane, Mekhila’s influence has since become focused within the Feywild, where her church—the Silver Temple—stands as a bastion of starlit wisdom and karmic balance. Though her doctrines emphasize clarity and calm, her judgment is firm, and she is known to guide souls and spellcasters alike along a predetermined, often difficult, path. Mekhila is as much a guardian of divine magic as she is a weaver of destiny.

In the past, the Silver Temple played a vital role within many surface-world empires, particularly among scholars, diviners, and noble courts who relied on its clairvoyance and magical precision. However, with the slumber of Ansil, Ceslida, and Auriel, and the rise of darker, more violent powers, Mekhila withdrew her presence and followers into the Feywild, where her stars shine uninterrupted. She is now most often worshipped in veiled glades, frozen sanctuaries, and silver-circled libraries hidden in planar folds. Even so, whispers of her guidance and divine magic continue to shape the material plane in subtle ways. Mekhila teaches that true power lies not in control, but in understanding the inevitable.

Her demeanor is reserved and patient. Unlike gods who wield fire or rage, Mekhila prefers the cold clarity of starlight and the calculated wisdom of a winter’s night. She is not unkind, but her mercy often comes with the weight of karmic expectation. She rarely shows favoritism, but when she does bless mortals, it is almost always because they align with fate itself. Even powerful divine beings come to her for counsel, for few understand time, stars, and consequence as deeply as Mekhila.

Ascension to Godhood

Mekhila’s origin began as a Nephal—a powerful being from Kol’s First Age born during the Nigredo era. She and her twin sister Arevay were renowned witches, unmatched in magic and intellect. Their rise during the war against the First Pantheon shocked the divine order, especially after they succeeded in slaying two gods and ascending to the Divine Council. Their ascension was aided by Auriel, who saw in them the strength to build a new, better order. It was Mekhila who guided mortal spellcasters toward higher forms of arcane law.

As part of their godhood, Mekhila founded the Silver Temple and took domains in winter, fate, stars, and knowledge. Her cold magic could still a mountain, and her voice was said to bend time. Mekhila and Arevay’s presence forced the First Pantheon to attempt the reshaping of Kol to prevent future ascensions. This act of desperation set a dangerous precedent, one Ahriman later exploited during the Carcosa Catastrophe. However, thanks to their efforts and allies, Kol was saved.

The Carcosa Catastrophe

During the Carcosa Catastrophe, Mekhila played a pivotal role in stopping Ahriman’s near-complete subjugation of Kol. She was instrumental in identifying the unraveling leyline threads leading toward total collapse. Together with Arevay, she anchored reality long enough for demihuman champions and allies to strike against Teàrrachar Analach. Mekhila herself forged weapons and gear from the corrupted corpse of Dalaghthanach—tools that would help the next generation of gods ascend.

It was also Mekhila who persuaded Regean to abandon her loyalty to Malthor. Through careful conversation and shared visions of Kol’s ruin, she helped the great white dragon see the truth. This act saved countless lives and further splintered Ahriman’s alliance. Mekhila’s magic didn’t just destroy or preserve—it persuaded, guided, and redirected.

The Serpent War in the Feywild

Now, in the Age of Ruby, the Feywild is the frontline of several invisible wars. Arevay, Mekhila, Regean, and Yan must constantly resist incursions from Saint Krajevi, Udrim, and Malthor—gods aligned with Ahriman and the chaos he feeds. The Blood War’s spillover has tainted the Feywild’s rivers, corrupted fey beasts, and warped dreamscape forests. The Silver Temple now serves as a shield, holding back entropy and ambition.

Mekhila’s calm demeanor is not passivity. She battles with precision, summoning starlight spears, snowstorms, and glacial wards. Her worshippers have fortified strongholds along the Astral Frost border—leyline junctures that are key in the spiritual war. The witches of the Feywild will not bend, even as their realm burns with unnatural flame.

The Blood War’s Spillover in the Feywild

The Feywild, a place of raw emotion and layered beauty, has not been spared the chaos of the Blood War. As Udrim, Malthor, and Saint Krajevi pull their forces into brutal conflict against Arevay, Mekhila, Regean, and Yan, the very fabric of the Feywild has begun to warp. Fields bloom with battle, forests burn with ambition, and fey courts shatter under foreign gods’ schemes. The war’s emotional resonance poisons the ley lines, turning joy into madness and sorrow into corruption. Creatures born of dreams now awaken screaming, malformed by the imbalance. Despite their vigilance, Mekhila and her allies struggle to preserve the Feywild’s essence amidst this ongoing divine siege.

Zarus Bound to Mekhila

Zarus, once a proud and calculating deity of law and domination, now finds his power shackled by Mekhila’s quiet will. Using a ritual drawn from the lost magic of Auriel and anchored in divine contract, Mekhila binds Zarus not through chains, but through obligation—his divine authority rendered a tool of the Silver Temple. Where once he spread conquest and control, now his decrees are redirected to preserve feywild harmony and defend its edges against infernal incursions. Mekhila uses Zarus’s strength sparingly, invoking his binding when order must be restored or when fate demands intervention beyond her typical reach. The balance between their wills remains delicate, but so far, Mekhila has proven the stronger force.

More than a captive, Zarus is a weapon of law wielded by a goddess of fate. Mekhila rarely unleashes his full potential, preferring nuance over brute force—but when chaos threatens the cycle of life, Zarus becomes her steel. Among her clergy, invoking Zarus is a solemn act, used only in times of metaphysical crisis or war. His influence is visible in the Silver Temple’s more rigid structures, legal codes, and ritual law enforcement. Though many worshippers never realize the truth of his captivity, they benefit from the quiet strength his submission provides to Mekhila’s divine court.

Tenets of the Silver Temple

  1. Observe, but do not interrupt the stars.
The stars are the memory of the universe. To alter fate without wisdom is to sever the lifeblood of truth.

  2. Act when the path is clear, but never before.
Do not rush the wheel of fate. Every step forward must echo in balance.

  3. Magic is a contract with reality.
All spellcraft draws from hidden laws. Use it with reverence, not pride.

  4. Cold teaches patience. Fire burns clarity.
Embrace winter not as death, but as rest and preservation.

  5. Knowledge is sacred, especially when unspoken.
Silence is the ward of the wise. The unknown is not a threat—it is a promise.

Structure of the Silver Temple

High Astrologer – The High Astrologer serves as Mekhila’s chief prophet and interpreter of celestial alignments. Their primary role is to decipher omens and read divine constellations, often relaying long-term strategies to other clergy and Feywild defenders. The High Astrologer is usually chosen through a complex divination ritual that requires the approval of Mekhila herself. They reside in the Skywell Spire, where the sky is open and the stars never shift. Their voice carries immense weight across all Silver Temple branches.

Glacier Maidens (or Starbound Brothers) – These senior priests and priestesses guide rituals, protect sacred relics, and serve as spiritual advisors. Their training is intense, often requiring decades of study in both fate-weaving and arcane spellcasting. Each member wears silver-threaded robes lined with cold magic, allowing them to walk through magical storms unharmed. They serve as both protectors and educators.

Spellguards of the Snow Sigil – These are the militant arms of the temple. While rare, they enforce balance when fate is under threat by external or chaotic forces. Their signature weapon is the Starblade—a magical sword that pulses with lunar energy and frost. Their armor reflects the constellations and glimmers even in total darkness.

The Shrouded Choir – This group consists of seers, bards, and silent archivists who record prophecies, forgotten fates, and possible timelines. They are never allowed to speak during daylight hours and are bound by vow to never lie. Many of their predictions are sealed in silver-leaf scrolls hidden in vaults across realms.

Church of Mekhila in the Age of Ruby

In the Age of Ruby, the Silver Temple is no longer the global magical institution it once was, but its influence has shifted to more subtle and essential functions. Mekhila’s clergy now serve as guides between realms, especially where leylines twist and intersect. The chaotic disruptions caused by the halted divine cycle have made fate more fragile, and Mekhila’s presence is one of the few stabilizing forces. Her followers frequently cross into the Material Plane to repair karmic disjunctions and gently influence events toward balance.

The temple's alliance with Arevay and Regean has been essential in defending the Feywild from internal and external collapse. Together, they form a tripartite alliance referred to by some scholars as the “Starwoven Triumvirate.” While other Feywild rulers fall to madness or ambition, Mekhila and her sisters of fate remain a beacon of structure and spiritual resilience. The temple is a symbol of hope for those Fey-aligned creatures and souls seeking order amidst chaos.

Despite their moral alignment, the witches do not aggressively seek converts. Those drawn to Mekhila are often scholars, frost mages, death clerics, and philosophers who find meaning in precision and the inevitability of death. Her temple welcomes both fey and mortal alike, provided they seek answers rather than power. The Silver Temple may no longer shine in every corner of Kol, but its influence still threads itself into every grand event.

Rituals and Dogma

The Starbind Rite
Performed under a clear sky or star dome, this ritual weaves a single mortal’s fate into the greater pattern of Kol. Clerics invoke Mekhila’s name as they align the subject’s life thread with constellations and omen patterns. The ritual is often done at birth, but some adults request it to find purpose.

Winter’s Embrace
A yearly fast and vigil during the coldest night of the year. Followers reflect in silence on the paths they’ve chosen and ask Mekhila to reveal where they strayed. Candles are lit to guide spirits and fates alike.

Ritual: The Weaving of Stars
This sacred rite is performed during the solstice, when the moon is at its zenith and the stars are most visible. Devotees gather in silence beneath the open sky, each bringing a silver thread representing a burden, choice, or hope. Under Mekhila’s watchful gaze, the threads are woven together into a tapestry that hangs in the temple, believed to reflect the shifting fates of the congregation. A priestess then burns a small portion of the cloth while chanting an ancient verse of fate, releasing the shared energy into the ley lines of the Feywild. It is said that those whose threads shimmer afterward have been granted Mekhila’s subtle favor.

Prayers

“O Silent Star”
"O Silent Star, watcher of my breath,
Speak not, but guide me unto death.
Where shadows lengthen and courage fades,
Let your frost light carve my fate in blades.
Mekhila, my compass, my cold night’s flame."

Prayer of the Silver Temple
“Lady of the Moon’s Judgment, we kneel not for mercy but for measure. We offer our steps, our doubts, our misdeeds, for you to weigh in silence. Turn your gaze upon our shadow and let us know the shape of its consequence. May your stars not shun us, and may your cold hands lift us from folly. Let our next breath be worthy of your name.”

Prayer: “To the Watcher in the Quiet”
“Moonlit Mother, watchful and wise,
In the silence between thoughts, we find you.
Judge our actions not in anger but in balance.
Let your frost cool our reckless fires, and your grace mend our broken path.
You who see what we cannot, lead us with invisible hands.”

Hymns

“Under Frost, We See”
A hymn often sung during group stargazing rituals.
“Under frost, we see the thread,
Woven past the tears we shed.
Silver light in quiet streams,
Carries us through midnight dreams.
To Mekhila, we turn our heads.”

Hymn of Celestial Balance
“In silver strands our lives entwine,
Through frost and fate, through star and sign.
The moon above, her lantern held,
By her quiet justice, wrath is quelled.
Sing not for glory, nor for fame—
But for the weight of one true name.”

“Silver is the Circle”
“Silver is the circle that binds the stars,
A ring of fate, both wound and scar.
It sings no praises, boasts no name,
Yet carries justice all the same.
Let twilight fall and silence rise—
She guides us still with unseen eyes.”
