The Old Lands - Session 2 (1-17-25)

Bast the Untethered preparing to read into the fate of Stevia. Bast is an ancient witch. She has served the Silver Temple since the First Age of Kol and has served as a member of the Undead Legion for almost as long.

JANUARY 17TH, 2025

FULL OUTLINE

The session began with the group recapping their previous mission, where they had freed the captured Lonnie Skywalker and obtained a page from the Book of Vile Darkness. They returned to the town of Qyn’ki, which was governed by Baron Harlan Swamp King Jefferson and his necromancer wife, Hila.

The group had a base of operations at a Thieves Guild called the Black Doe, run by Gyna Lombardi. Gyna questioned the group about their findings and rewarded them with 1,325 gold pieces for their successful mission. The group discussed what Gyna shared with them, including information about a divine key and an ancient crown that the Patriciate was interested in recovering from the Great Oubliette.

Gyna offered the group a meeting room in the Black Doe, which was a pocket dimension protected from scrying and teleportation. During the meeting, the group used mind reading to uncover a strange effect on their brains from the anomalies that is similar to anti-magic and divine magic. Gyna also scried on Lonnie Skywalker – reveling more about the Beau Abernathy’s and the Patriciate’s plans. Gyna gave the group 4 potions of mind reading for free before sending them on their way to intercept the secret meeting Lonnie Skywalker was talking about.

They decided to investigate further and went shopping, acquiring various items such as a pistol (Grim), shield (Grim), adamantine rapier (Grim), Bracers of Archery (Oberyn), a scroll of fireball (Currently on Oberyn, who cannot cast magic or use the scroll), and a carpet of flying (Stevia).

The most eventful shop was Bast’s Dave Lamp.  Bast is an ancient Valkyrie and witch for the Silver Temple. While there, Grim encountered an all-white aracocra named Hank Dandelion at Bast’s Shop.  Grim deduced he was Hank’s half-brother. The group used a divination spell to confirm this relationship and learned that Grim and Hank may be following a similar path as related to their shared father.  Hank and Grim are shocked, but happy to find each other and Hank decides to celebrate by offering to paint a picture of the party.

Stevia also exchanged her soul in a deal with Bast. Stevia offered her soul for eternity after her death for the Undying Legion. In exchange for becoming part of The Legion, she would be bestowed many gifts.  The first gift were 4 sending stones.  Bast held on to another sending stone that would connect her directly to them. 

As the group prepared to leave the Davy Lamp, Bast warns Stevia about the Cait Sith and getting lost on the wrong path of darkness. The group also experiences a strange effect where they struggle to remember details about Lonnie Skywalker or why they even had notes about him. This leads to a too late realization that the page from the Book of Vile Darkness also seems to be reacting to this moment. A flame of some sort of rejection erupts from the Book of Vile Darkness, severely harming the party.  Fortunately, Bast is there to immediately help.

The session ended with the group tending to their injuries and preparing for the next encounter, which the game master mentioned would start the following session directly encountering the group of Patriciate Officers at a secret meeting with an unknown third party.

Decisions made

• The party decided to purchase various items from different shops, including a revolver, a shield, an adamantine rapier, some scrolls, some potions, and a stone of good luck.

• They chose Stevia exchanged her soul for membership into the Undead Legion and various empowerments.  The first empowerment was a carpet of flying.

• The group agreed to accept free sending stones offered to them by Gyna Lombardi.

Issues & Risks

• The party was warned about the Cait Sith, who were apparently trying to claim them.

• There was a concern Bast learned from her tarrot cards. It was something about the darkness and something called “The Breathing Tar.”

• The characters experienced a strange effect where they struggled to remember the friendly rescued officer of the Patriciate named Lonnie Skywalker. In fact, no one could recall anything about him or why they had any information about him.

• The group suffered unexpected damage, possibly related to touching a page from the Book of Vile Darkness.

Next steps

• Hank Dandelion (a newly introduced character) offered to paint a portrait of the group, to be completed in about a week.

• The party was instructed to stay the night for tending to their injuries.

• The game master mentioned that the next session would start with the encounter they didn't get to in this session.
